Our philosophy at Aberdeen Heights is that residents in every level of care should enjoy the way they want to live. To achieve this, we have developed a robust range of programs and activities that promote “holistic wellness.” When seniors are able to focus on physical, intellectual, emotional, and spiritual growth, they remain vital and are able to make the most of every day.
Below is just a sampling of the programs and activities that Aberdeen Heights has to offer.
From weekly Bridge, pinochle, mahjong and domino games to the monthly happy hours, there’s always something going on at Aberdeen Heights. Take a look at our social activities calendar to see what we’ve got cooking.
Our popular fitness center is a major hub of activity for all at Aberdeen Heights. From weekly aerobics and other classes for our Independent living residents, to swimming and hydrotherapy in our indoor pool, to wellness activities, music therapy and much more for our health care residents, we promote a sound body and mind for everyone. Our residents have an active water volleyball team and participate in local senior Olympics events.
What age do you have to be to start creating amazing works of art? At Aberdeen Heights, you’re free to express yourself, and invest in what makes you special. We encourage you to discover and nurture your creative side through our popular and award-winning Art is Ageless® program.
Aberdeen Heights affords residents countless opportunities to practice their faith as they choose. We offer vesper services with guest pastors from the area on Sunday evenings, Bible studies, a choir, an intercessory prayer group, special worship services, and an active spiritual life committee that guides the spiritual programs and needs on campus. We are proud of our Presbyterian background, but respect people of all faiths and try to foster spiritual life for everyone.
Our residents love taking advantage of continuing education opportunities such as classes through our program. Our popular Just Ask Lifelong Learning Series offers educational events on topics of interest to seniors in the broader community as well as our residents. A few of our other educational opportunities include library services, cultural and social enrichment activities, resident special interest groups, and more. Check our events and activities calendars to see what’s coming up.
We regularly feature activities involving young people. Whether it’s a youth choir performance and visit, an ongoing program with a local school or regular activities with a local preschool, these pairings of the young and the aged are not by happenstance: there are bona fide benefits for the kids, the seniors and the community. For seniors, the positive effects include health benefits.
Musical memory is profoundly linked to emotions. In fact, our brains are hard-wired to connect music with long-term memory, and beloved music often calms chaotic brain activity and helps the listener regain connections in the present. Our certified Music & Memory™ program taps into this special human attribute. Personalized music playlists, delivered using iPods and other digital audio devices, transform the quality of life for seniors struggling with a range of physical and cognitive impairments.
In addition to hosting special campus events, we provide a regular schedule of day trips and off-site special events, including trips to the many museums and cultural venues of St. Louis, Missouri, and the surrounding area. From the Missouri Botanical Gardens to the Art Museums of Forest Park, from Busch Stadium and the Cardinals Hall of Fame to the many area performing arts centers, we have a vibrant life here in Aberdeen Heights.
